Tared - An Irregular Typeface
Type Design and Graphic Design
August 2022
The project involved understanding type anatomy and relationship between type, form and space, leading to designing a thematic typeface.
Here an irregular display typeface was created using aluminium wire, following a mixed media approach. The type face can be used on funky posters, music album covers, logos and so on.

A display typeface, which has irregular form and shape, twisting and turning aluminium wires into each letter form and then digitalising the type, named ‘Tar-ed’ derived from the Hindi word tar meaning wire.

Process of twisting and turning each strand of wire to create the letters

The objective was to create an irregular type with undefined curved, angles and thickness.

Following a dark holographic visual theme.

Thought of using broken glass as a medium but it had its own drawbacks. Thus, aluminium wired seemed to be the best suited material.
